Dyson Styling Ambassador, Renya Xydis, shares her Australian Fashion Week schedule and the Dyson Professional hair tools she can’t live without
What did the lead-up to AAFW look like for you?
The lead-up is quite hectic. I have meetings with designers and listen to the look and feel of what they want their collection to portray, then I go and reference ideas from my library. The next step is a hair trial to present how the hair will look on the models, then we lock in a look for the show. There’s a lot to consider on how to execute the look on the day, as I assess how many models will run the catwalk and how I can create that look in the time provided before the show. Pre-show prep can include sourcing materials such as hair pieces (that may need to be cut or coloured) and accessories or hand-made materials that I add to hair. The lead time for each show is usually 3 weeks of workshops and long days with my team creating.
Do you have a morning routine that helped you prep for a day at AAFW?
In the weeks leading up to the shows, I keep my social activities to a minimum. I need to be on the ball, focused and healthy - stamina is everything. I’m paid to execute hair on some designers’ biggest day of the year and I need to be on my best form. It depends what time the show is on; a call time can be as early as 5am. On those days, I ensure I’m super-hydrated and my kit is ready (this includes ensuring my Dyson Corrale™ straightener professional edition is charged), and my agent has provided all the information with any changes that have occurred in the last 24 hours. I get an early night, wake to a light breakfast, take my vitamins and tonics and I’m ready to go!

The Wynn Hamlyn show by Wella Professionals – the hair was so polished and modern. Hair was worn long and sleek with an inwards curl at the ends. I used the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer Professional for the blow-dry and the Dyson Corrale™ straightener professional edition for the curl to create that super-sleek, glassy look. For Bondi Born by Wella Professionals, I used the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer Professional with Wella product to enhance the texture. Once swept up in the braided bun, I used the Dyson Corrale™ straightener professional edition to smooth the ends.
