Hair Visionary
Three-time Australian Hairdresser of the Year, Dee Parker Attwood, shares her vision and predictions on the upcoming spring season trends.
People on the streets stop wearing only black and clients in-salon want to freshen their looks by restyling the length or changing their shade. Melbourne Cup and Spring Racing coincide with holiday preparation by shops, and the streets and venues come alive.
I have just launched the True Colours campaign with Schwarzkopf Professional, which takes a deep dive into the stunning looks that will grace our runways, salons and pavements this season. Heavily inspired by the unique flora and landscapes emblematic of our continent, True Colours proves that to find inspiration this spring, one simply needs to look outside.
This year, I’m taking inspiration from the runways, particularly the Romance Was Born Afterpay Australian Fashion Week show that I hair directed with Schwarzkopf Professional. We created slick, wet-looking top knots and waved wet-look rolls that elevated the beautiful garments.
From runway to salon, I believe ‘snatched’ hair will be big this season. Made popular by Kim K, the snatched topknot or high ponytail is a current much-have ‘it’ style. The facelift effect shows off the cheekbones and lifted eyebrows that are trending in makeup. The style can be evolved to suit the client, finished by leaving ends braided or left out completely.
From snatched to detached, the next trend is the ‘Big Blowout’. Think 90s bouncy, blow-waves. Leaving brushes in and ends curly, clients are asking for more volume and less waves, achieved with brushes rather than tongs. Hair styled off the face is also huge for spring, keeping blow-waves looking fresh and current.
Made famous by the catwalk, wet hair is here to stay. Seen now - both on the streets and at formal events - this hair is left wet, styled and manipulated into shape with no drying. A lot of product is used to master this look; my favourites being Schwarzkopf Professional Session Label The Serum and The Mousse.
