The Scent of Summer

Brooke Duder on what makes the best summer fragrance

Abel Golden Neroli Pefume

Summer, is there anything sweeter? Tan lines and salty hair, mornings spent with french doors flung open to the backyard, music creeping over the fence from a neighbour's soiree and the feeling of freedom, indulgence and creativity.

The best summer scents conjure specific memories and moods of times gone by. Nostalgia encapsulated. One whiff of Chanel No.5 and mentally, I'm right back in the 90s, opening mum's wardrobe, looking for something beautiful or sparkly to try on. CK by Calvin Klein; walking my high school halls. Jo Malone's Wood, Sage & Sea Salt; London days, loving life, dating incessantly, and forever trying to work out what my passion was. What will this summer's fragrance remind you of? Or better yet, where do you want it to transport you? Because that's the other magical power of scent - its ability to transport you anywhere in the world in just one spritz.

This year especially, fragrances should radiate with life, light, and optimism. Having tried an overwhelming variety of scents, the Headway team's warm weather pick for the new year is Golden Neroli by Abel. A deliciously bright citrus floral that opens with a harmonious neroli and matcha tea accord, a rich jasmin sambac, petitgrain and ylang ylang heart and a soft santal base. What memories you imbue it with this summer is up to you…
